My Statehouse Competition
The My State House competition asks participants to reconsider the iconic building and its expansive grounds, suggesting interventions that would make the Rhode Island State House more welcoming, accessible, dynamic, and available for community use.
It is a multiphase community-driven ideas competition. In its first phase, community members were invited to draw activities or interventions onto maps of the Rhode Island State Capitol to show the changes that would make the building and its grounds attractive for a range of community uses.
In the second phase community members, activists, architects, landscape architects, artists, futurists and engineers were invited to participate in a national competition to reimagine the State House of the future by submitting design concepts based on one or more of the community-made maps from the first phase. The selected final proposals will be exhibited in the Lower Level Gallery of the Rhode Island State House in the summer of 2022.
